Barbara Wilkinson is an artisan and jewelry designer born and bred in New York City. Inspired by her fine arts background, as well as her time in Southeast Asia, Barbara combines the excellent quality and brilliantly-colored gemstones from India with sterling silver and gold vermeil charms and pendants handcrafted in Thailand and Indonesia. Her eye for color and focus on the smallest, most minute details has become the foundation of the delicate designs of the Over the Moon Jewel collection.
Barbara began designing jewelry six years ago but her path came by way of fine art and fashion. From an early age, she became serious about drawing and other art forms. By the time she was a teenager, she had mastered sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery, and soon began creating her own designs. She later studied Studio Arts at the CUNY Queens College, the Brooklyn Museum Art School, and photography at Parsons the New School for Design.
Taking a hiatus from art, Barbara began a successful career as an industry executive for a major financial services company. After years in the financial services industry, however, Barbara decided she needed to reconnect with her creative roots and started Over the Moon Jewel. Combining her creativity with her business fortitude has proven to be a winning combination. Now she has come full circle and back to her creative passion and independent spirit and enjoying every part of the process and journey.
In addition to designing jewelry, Barbara is an avid supporter of independent design and independent business. She is the co-founder, co-organizer, and co-curator of the Independent Designer Pop Shop, a bimonthly retail event that features a rotating cast of New York City's top independent designers.
Barbara Wilkinson is based in Manhattan. Over the Moon Jewel is available online and at boutiques, various designer markets, and retail events across the United States.
